So, it’s all over the news this morning that President Barack Hussein Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to the President on this accomplishment. It is only one amongst his many notable accomplishments. I wonder at how surprised the journalists were in Oslo, where they reportedly gasped when President Obama’s name was announced. Yeah… truth be told, I’m a bit surprised too. Let’s think about this…

President Obama made much of bringing peace to the world during his presidential campaign. He promised to immediately close Guantanamo Bay – but hasn’t yet. He promised to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – but hasn’t yet. He promised a presidency that healed racial wounds and a new era of bi-partisan political workmanship. He hasn’t accomplished either one and appears to be working exactly opposite of the campaign platform. Instead of healing racism, he seems to contribute to issues regularly. Instead of working in a bi-partisan fashion, his actions show that he is leveraging the Democrat majority Congress to his every advantage as he pushes his extreme left wing agenda onto an unwanting populace.

Perhaps the most surprising part of his winning the Nobel Peace Prize is that the prize committee said, “Very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.” Wow…

Now, let’s think a moment: I read somewhere that nominations for the Peace Prize closed on February 1. That was 12… yes, just twelve days after he was inaugurated. So, in just 12 days he accomplished so much toward a new era of world peace that the committee awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize? Who’s fooling whom?

Of course, I’m sure the President won’t object when he goes to Oslo in December to accept his prize of 10 million Swedish crowns – worth about $1.4 million in American dollars. Of course, if the exchange rate changes for the better he may actually benefit more; not that the President has any say in the value of the dollar, right? Nothing he does can raise or lower its internationally recognized value, right? Um, sure…

Frankly, I am appalled. I am having a hard time believing that this man – who campaigned on “hope and change” has changed very little as far as I can see with the exception that he seems hell-bent on eradicating portions of, if not all of, the Constitution of the United States. World Peace? Sure, he’s helped that along. He’s bowed to the Saudi King, pissed off the British Queen, insulted millions and molly-coddled terrorists. If anything, from my perspective, he has promoted circumstances wherein world peace will be more difficult to achieve unless his goal is world peace through total surrender of our national sovereignty. THAT he seems to be working on diligently.

So… President Barack Hussein Obama… recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Congrats, Mr. Prez. I hope that somewhere deep inside your soul there might be a smidgin of conscience that makes you feel guilty as you take that money, knowing full well that this is a sham. And if you really do have ANY dedication to “hope and change”, I’ll look forward to you donating that money to a totally non-political non-profit organization that DOES support world peace. The Salvation Army and the Red Cross are both hurting for dollars; pick one. That said, I’d bet money some of it ends up in the hands of ACORN to help them defend against the criminal allegations they now face.

It will be interesting to see – if I’m around for it – what my grandchildren are taught about Obama. Interesting indeed…

The nobel committee has shamed themselves and this award is nothing more than left wing political hash, what a disgrace. the really unfortunate part is how this now devalues the legitimate awards in science and medicine. Even Saturday Night Live has mocked Obama as the do nothing man.

    1. It’s already been announced that the Nobel prize money will be donated to charity.
    2. Someone may have *nominated* Obama shortly after his inauguration, but the selection wasn’t made until relatively recently.
    3. I can’t think of a single president who managed to put his campaign promises into action immediately. The president can do very little by himself. He has to enlist the support of Congress for most any significant change. Most presidents accomplish only a fraction of what they said they would do.
    4. Over the last 20 years or so (maybe more), the approach to resolving the world’s conflicts has been to overcome the opposition with force. That hasn’t worked out well. The Iraq conflict threatens to go longer than did Vietnam. No one has conquered Afghanistan since the Mongols invaded–and that was 800 years ago. Obama is putting a greater emphasis on diplomacy, which, if nothing else, will cost fewer American lives.
For more immediate issues, I urge you to examine his reaction when Somali pirates seized the Maersk Alabama. He is not afraid to deploy force to protect American interests.
It’s easy to attack Obama for everything he does, because he’s a liberal and is thus fundamentally evil. He didn’t ask to win the Nobel Prize. Can’t you be just a little gracious, sincerely congratulate him and be proud that our country’s president was chosen for the award, and move on?

Tim, if there was any part of me that was proud of him as my country’s President, then yes. Even given the past eight months I don’t see what he’s done to earn a Nobel Peace Prize. We have (you and I) pretty different outlooks on how to handle / manage the war. It’s easy to defend Obama for everything he does because he’s a liberal, first African American president, and a Harvard graduate. Can’t you admit that he’s just another human being, just as flawed as the rest of us, and obviously leading the country in a direction opposite of that which our founding fathers put in place?

  4. Allan Garcia says:

Frederic Nobel, amongst other things, is the creator of dynamite. Obama is that the helm of an ultra liberal political juggernaut bent on destroying this country with broad based socialized medicine and government takeovers of free enterprise. The irony of it all…

  5. Tim Dees says:

Frank: I readily admit that Obama is flawed, just like the rest of us. It’s you who complains because he isn’t perfect. As for leading the country in a different direction than what the Founding Fathers would have wanted, that’s another debate. The Founding Fathers aren’t around to give us their input.

Had it been up to me, no, I wouldn’t have given him the Peace Prize, at least not at this point in his presidential career. I’m surprised that he was even considered. But your quarrel there is with the Nobel Committee, not me. One op ed piece I read said that the Nobel Committee’s choice is recognition that the United States has reclaimed its position as a world leader. A separate report said that the U.S. is now the most admired country in the world. I have to think our president has something to do with that.

  6. PhilVH says:

Tim: We do not have the founding fathers around, but we do have their letters and the histories of their lives and those do make it apparent that he is taking the country in the opposite direction.
