Welcome to December and the 36th issue of New American Truth. When we first started this venture there were some people who voiced doubt that we’d last six months. Obviously, we’ve done that six times over and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel good. Just as obviously, we owe it all to you, our readers. The feedback we’ve received; the suggestions, compliments, criticisms, and the rest all served to help us in making New American Truth better.
When this magazine first began it was a product of Borelli Consulting. Having provided equipment evaluations to both the military and the law enforcement communities since 1999 Borelli Consulting used that community base as a launch platform for New American Truth. Here we find ourselves three years later and this past year the support and growth for New American Truth was so great that it surpassed the original Borelli Consulting platform. In September all of the Borelli Consulting material was merged over to New American Truth and the online presence was completely revamped. Although the Borelli Consulting forums still exist, the traffic, participation and readership in the New American Truth blogosphere is larger and growing each day.
All of the above was included in what I gave thanks for this past Thanksgiving Day. I do consider it an honor and a serious responsibility to provide the information I do – and this organization does both in the magazine and on the website. As I’ve said repeatedly, if we’re not serving the interests of those who protect and defend or protect and serve our great country, then we’re doing something wrong.
Of course, with this magazine, our intention never was to only serve the military and/or law enforcement communities. Our intention was to serve every American citizen who refuses to be a victim of crime or terrorism. As the past three years have seen this publication evolve we’ve also begun to address some of the sheer plain stupidity expressed by our elected representatives. Oddly enough, that commentary and editorial content has generated more interest and comment than any other.
So, the past three years have seen positive growth and continual improvement for us. That is, as said, due in part to simple business decisions, but in largest part to the input and involvement of our readers. In the coming year we have more evolution to look forward to.
January will see our staff attending SHOT Show and providing coverage for the same. We’re still trying to fine tune how we go about that and 2010 will be the first year we can do it both through our blogosphere, our online reviews, and in the magazine content. Short of videos (which we may incorporate as well), there’s little other type of coverage we can provide (or anyone else can either).
Also coming in January will be a feature editorial article about an organization called OathKeepers.org. I’m sure some of you have heard about it. Quite simply it’s a collection of veterans, currently serving soldiers and law enforcement professionals who take an additional oath: an oath to honor their original oath of service to defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies both foreign and domestic, or – in the case of law enforcement – to uphold the laws of their states, counties and localities within the governance of the Constitution. The bottom line – and something we all need to remember – is that our country was founded and built upon the groundwork of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is unacceptable for anyone – even our elected representatives – to change that groundwork or to give orders that aren’t in compliance with it. Given the current state of affairs in our government, many citizens are understandably worried that the United States of America; the republic as it was founded – is in danger of being changed radically. We’ll keep on eye on that.
Helping us will be the Oathkeepers. If everything works out as we hope, they’ll be providing us regular input on their growth, their membership’s concerns, and what they’re doing to help keep our great nation on track. It is, after all, a goal we share.
So, all that said, I find myself having just enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving and looking forward to an even more wonderful Christmas. As a Christian, that’s the holiday I will celebrate and the greeting I will give. Merry Christmas. Of course, if that’s not the holiday you celebrate, then I also wish you a happy and safe holiday season as it applies. For all those folks who celebrate the holiday of a different religion, I’d be honored if you’d give me YOUR applicable holiday greeting. I will accept it in the spirit it was offered and thank you for helping me learn more about the diversity that can be the strength of our nation if we approach it properly. If me saying Merry Christmas offends you, well… oh, well. I’m not going to apologize for giving you the greeting I was raised and taught to give. Please remember, if that’s you, that you giving me a different greeting offends me not in the least. Therefore, one of us is being narrow-minded. I’ll let you figure that out.
Enjoy this issue. There are some really interesting articles here. Have a happy and safe holiday season. Travel carefully if you do. Remember to appreciate your family and friends. It’s not all about the presents. If we can remember that – no matter what religion we participate in – then we’re ahead of the game.
Thank you again for your readership.
