New American Truth
—
Maybe I’m just being too hopeful. Maybe I’m just being overly optimistic. Maybe I’m just seeing what I want to see rather than what is. (Kind of a Don’t distract me with the facts; my mind is already made up thing) But for sure and certain, it seems that everywhere I look I’m seeing reports of how Americans seem to be waking up to the reality that our professional politicians – those we-ve elected – have no interest in serving the public trust or the public will. Instead they seem only hell-bent on lining their pockets with as much money as possible by leveraging as much power as they can acquire. What warms my heart is how thoroughly Americans seem to be responding to this – even if it is a lot slower than I’d like to see.
What are some examples of their improper behavior? Well, perhaps improper is the wrong word. How about irresponsible?
Let’s start out with the over twelve point three TRILLION dollars in debt our country currently holds; a debt that is pushing the recently raised debt ceiling; a debt that will have to grow as our country has eight months left in this budget cycle. Our country looks at and sees this debt and freely recognizes (if they take a moment) that nearly 10% of it was acquired simply in the “bail out” “stimulus” money our government representatives GAVE to big companies which had managed themselves into the ground. Such reward for piss poor performance surely angers many.
How about the on-going easily identified WASTEFUL spending those same elected representatives commit? As an example I’d point to the over $1.1 MILLION that was spent by those same politicians as they traveled to Copenhagen recently, burning hundreds of thousands of gallons of jet fuel and gasoline, eating up countless kilo-watts of electricity, all in the name of reducing global warming.
While we’re on that topic, how does everyone feel about the Environmental Protection Agency setting new standards nearly every day, based on science that has now been proven not only to be questionable (at best) but manipulated (at its ugliest)? I for one don’t appreciate a government agency arbitrarily setting standards I have to live by and by which I can be fined without due process.
Is anybody else upset by how our elected representatives – those self-serving professional politicians – seem to be so snuggly in bed with the big business money movers on Wall Street? It doesn’t take much to see things severely out of balance. As the Stock Market goes on a roller coaster ride and our elected “leaders” tell us the economy is improving, big oil continues to bilk every penny out of us that they can at the gas pumps while unemployment continues to rise and the housing market continues to struggle (at best). Yes, unemployment is still growing. Only in America under the current leadership can “improvement” be measured by how slow unemployment continues to grow. Yes, the housing market is still in trouble. December ’09′s home sales plummeted 17% from the previous year; foreclosures are still being filed at what would have been record setting rates in previous years; but since there were fewer in December than in previous months the government tells us that the housing market is improving. Not really… it’s just not getting worse as fast as it was.
How do we all feel about this? I don’t like having my government attempt to manipulate me into thinking that they are doing such a great job. Virtually every wannabe-politician campaign on a platform of doing something different. Whether it’s hope and change or no new taxes they all end up revealed as full of bull hockey. As a result…
We The People of the United States in order to TAKE BACK control of our government need to continue with the growing surge of grass-roots movements that threaten the seemingly endless clutch of professional politicians on the seats of power. WE THE PEOPLE own those seats. WE THE PEOPLE should control what goes on in them. If our elected representatives don’t represent our will, then they certainly shouldn’t get a paycheck from OUR TAXES to “represent” us. If they aren’t doing their job then we should fire them. In this case that means not re-electing them.
Last week in Massachusetts WE THE PEOPLE spoke and a Senate seat that the Democrats thought they owned was won by a Republican. Now I can’t say I’m in favor of either big party at the moment, but I’m glad to see the shake up going on. I hope it’s just an indicator of how this fall’s mid-term elections are going to go. Certainly I see it as a sign that WE THE PEOPLE are simply fed up with the professional political BS that is overwhelmingly present in the egotistical minds and actions of the current crop of elected “representatives” and that WE THE PEOPLE are exercising our power to let them know we’re pissed off.
