New American Truth

I saw an article today about one of the advertisements shown during the Super Bowl. The ad is apparently produced by Audi and pushes their new hybrid vehicle, but the large bulk of the advertisement shows the green police arresting people who are performing actions that aren’t kind to mother earth. If it wasn’t for the fact that such laws already exist, it might be funny.
What laws? In one part there is a man throwing away an aluminum can instead of recycling it. He gets arrested for that. Silly, right? But there are several jurisdictions in our country where you CAN be fined if you fail to recycle aluminum cans. There is a law that says you have to recycle them.
In another scene a green police officer has stopped two kids who were drinking water out of plastic bottles. As he dumps them out he says, “What do you think of plastic now, huh?” The scene is reminiscent of all those times I stopped someone drinking a beer in public and made them either guzzle it or dump it out. Drinking alcohol in public (in Maryland) is illegal and not really treated all that seriously unless the officer is either really bored or the person doing the drinking is a repeat offender who just blatantly cares nothing about the law. To see a cop acting the same way over plastic bottles was both funny and horrid.
All of this brought to mind a single saying in my mind: Watch out for the slippery slope.
Our founding fathers very carefully wrote a list of things our government could never do. That mattered. They realized that once the government gained a too-powerful toe hold in control, that would only grow. Where laws regarding our environment are concerned we’re already there and we should be concerned.
As much as we all probably owe Al Gore every penny we ever earn (or at least he thinks so) because he’s single handedly saved the planet by calling our attention to global warming… oops, we’re supposed to call it climate change now (newsflash: the climate changes four times a year – they’re called seasons) – and we all learn all about climate change through Al’s other invention, the Internet (thereby implying he invented “climate change” too)… I can’t help but wonder what he’s going to do about those evil cows. You see, every time a cow farts she creates more methane in our atmosphere than you driving your car for a week. That single cow fart also creates more methane and other “warming gasses” than any hybrid vehicle currently manufactured – so they are evil too; just not AS evil as your truck or SUV.
The liberals, led by that wonder woman hero of theirs, Nancy Pelosi (who flies a JET home to California every weekend, thereby adding more warming gasses to the atmosphere than ten cow farts) have taken it upon themselves to make sure the rest of us treat Mother Nature right – or else. The Green Police are no doubt – as demonstrated in those places where you get fined for not recycling a recyclable item – a law enforcement division they want to invent or increase the power of.
GIVE ME A BREAK!
People… recycle what you can; compost what you can; quit flushing gum down your toilets. Here’s a thought Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi have obviously missed: use common sense!!
Together we can all make the world a better place but I’ve got much bigger worries than whether or not my neighbor is recycling all of his recyclables. No wonder so many liberals 1) look so horrid and 2) have health issues. They are worrying themselves to death over trivial crap!
What do you think?

I agree. I laughed at the commercial, but also thought it was very stupid.
Politicians use common sense, that would be something new.
One of our founding fathers said it: “every government needs a revolution occasionally.”
Those in the Tea Party seem to have struck a nerve and the political establishment is taking notice. They should be very nervous.
It’s time. Government is much too big. And it’s getting bigger.
From civics I seem to remember that the Feds have just 4 areas of authority/responsibiity: raise an army, deal with foreign governments, regulate matters between the states, and print the money. It’s time to return our governing process to its roots.
It’s time to stop the current trolley on its tracks. I hope and pray that this revolution will be peaceful.
That’s my .02 worth. Your mileage may vary.
I believe that the country is waking up but we must answer the call to end the madness and restore the Republic and “common sense” 2010 is a chance to clean house and hopefully install some people with American Values. I agree on the term limits for Senate and Congress they become like tenured employees and do their and their bidders will. We in New Jersey are working hard on all areas of constitution and American values. We must watch what is taught in our schools as well. There is a movie ” The Cartel” suggested reading.
God Bless America
There were a couple of things you guys missed about that commercial that were kind of funny-weird: the scene where the Green Police were going through trash cans, found a battery, and, shouting, “Take the house!”, charged in and did a dynamic entry on the poor schlub who threw the battery in the trash can; and the end-tag where the Green Police rousted a couple of real coppers for drinking their coffee out of stop-n-rob styrofoam cups. Now, maybe I’m reading too much into it, but even though I was laughing, I was a little weirded-out by thinking about enviromental regulations that override Criminal Code, and no-warrant, no-knock dynamic entries for not recycling.
When you come right down to it, I’m not happy about an eco-fascist state that violates the Constitution, even as a joke. And I’m really not happy about the fact that there are a lot of so-called “Progressives” who think of that commercial as a blueprint, instead of as a joke.
