The American Royal Family

New American Truth

Last spring my family and I began planning our family vacation this year. We were going to Orlando, FL to Universal Studios for the new Harry Potter stuff and, of course, there’s plenty else to do in Orlando. Our plans were changed however as budgeting realities fell into place and we’re now vacationing much closer to home, for six days instead of eight and even that’s tight. It leaves me longing for the ability to take a quarter million dollar vacation…

Of course, that’s exactly what the First Lady and her children are doing in Spain. As I watched the cost estimates detailed on The Today Show this morning the bile slowly rose in my throat. It didn’t take them long to pass the $250,000 mark and I stopped watching after only two items:

  • The round trip 757 flight was over $150K
  • The Secret Service detail per diem was over $95K

When I left the room they were discussing the cost of the 30 rooms that were booked just so Mrs. Obama and her children could play tourist on this high dollar vacation. There’s no doubt in my mind that costs as much as, if not more than, the flight.

So as I sipped my morning coffee I began trying to wrap my mind around the potential justification for such a trip. I mean, yes, wouldn’t we ALL like to take such a trip? I’d love to give my wife and son the experience of spending several weeks enjoying a foreign culture. It’s one of those life experiences that are irreplaceable. But, I realized, I don’t have the taxpayers’ dollars to fund my vacations.

Then I realized that this report on The Today Show about the trip followed immediately after the jobs report which showed our economy lost more jobs in July. I’ve read several articles this morning about record number of people using food stamps and the real estate market still in the tank. My ire really built up when I realized that our economy is still badly faltering and our “First Family” is so attuned to the problem; so sympathetic to the problems of the average American; desirous of showing such compassion… that they take an extravagant vacation on our tax dollars.

The light bulb popped on over my head and something that I had considered as a possibility before blazed through as a definite reality now:

There can be no other explanation (in my mind) except that the Obama family considers itself modern royalty, entitled to such a life, lived on the broken spines of the peasants they crush unnoticed under their heel.

How can this President or any member of his family possibly justify the expenditure on this vacation during a continuing time of economic crisis in our country? If they truly want to demonstrate their compassion and attachment to the common man then perhaps they should have found a way to give that quarter million + dollars back to we tax payers who EARNED IT. And perhaps, and I’m just spiff-balling here, the President should play a little less golf and a little more attention?

Wait… that’s what a leader would do. Mr. Obama has not, in my opinion, shown any leadership qualities. And if he’s not a leader, then he is nothing more than a figurehead; a facade; the face of the country, but not the head of state. No wonder he considers himself royalty… that’s how he gets treated and no one dares correct him when he acts that way.

858 days left and counting.

Once again Frank you are right on the money with this one. I told my beloved wife yesterday “I am sure the Obama Family thanks you for putting in those extra hours at work to help you to pay your fair share of the flight to Spain” She just shook her head in disgust. I find the audacity of this administration to be a direct insult to the American people. Unemployment a very real possibility with many American’s if it isn’t already. The administration keeps harping on “share the wealth”, “put in you fair share”, and all of the other hyperboyle that flows out of D.C. like oil in a broken well in the gulf. I would like to have seen the Presidents wife vacation in the United States in an area with rampant unemployment, imagine what those dollars could have done to the economy of a area affected by the recession. 858 days left, not getting here soon enough. May God Bless the United States of America. We need all of the help we can get.

  2. I completely agree. What would the “First Family” do if they had to pay for everything? The problem now is they don’t think about it, if they did then MAYBE they wouldn’t take such extravagant trips, but I doubt it when you consider who we are talking about. I’m sure they are thinking, “Why shouldn’t the little people pay for our fabulous trip.” What exactly have they done to deserve such a trip?
