editor picGood Morning!

I could tell as I walked through Target the other day that the Christmas season is here whether we're ready or not.  I'm still trying to figure out my Thanksgiving menu.  This year I'll be lucky enough to have three of my four children at home with me; both my son- and daughter-in-law; and quite possibly a neighbor or two.  It will be an interesting day and I'll be denying the beginning of the Christmas season until the day after Thanksgiving.

We face new times.  Our country has just completed an historic election.  We have our first American-African president.  We may not all be happy about it but we have a duty to our country to support him as best we can while maintaining our God-given constitutionally-recognized rights.

Be Safe.

Tactical Equipment Evaluation:
TYB: Blackwater's Basic Pistol DVD

TYB; Train Your Brain.  My first thought when I got this DVD was, "You can't teach pistolcraft without being on the range."  Well, you CAN teach knowledge and you can't have a skill without having knowledge.  So I tried to keep an open mind and watch the DVD to see what I could learn.  The first lesson I learned is that having an open mind is a good thing.  There were several other things I learned, and ultimately I discovered that a DVD about pistol handling is not as absurd as I thought.  In fact, it's a pretty good thing.  Let me tell you a bit about the DVD and why I'll be keeping it for future repeated watching and for assistance training student shooters.

Recreational Equipment Review:
The Chase

Some authors are incapable of writing about one main character.  The problem is that, if the author has been prolific long enough, their main character is either denying his age or the author's writing is no longer contemporary.  A few authors have crossed the lines and written about different main characters, starting more than one line of sequential novels.  I don't know if that's Cussler's intention with this book but he introduced a new character in a different time without sacrificing any of his enjoyable action investigative settings.  Let me introduce you to Isaac Bell of the Van Dorn Detective Agency.

It is an observable oddity of the American society that we sometimes act or behave exactly opposite to what is in our best interests.  I know a great many people who act oddly when they are falling in love, but that's not really a surprise is it?  Some people say that a soldier who sacrifices himself for his fellow soldiers has acted oddly, but others understand the selfless sacrifice he made - and should be honored for.  What strikes me this week that I'll write about in this article is how our American society seems to be structuring itself to raise ever more pacifist citizens at a time in our history when we are most in need of warriors.

Blogs on Officer.com
For those of you who weren't aware, since December of '07 I've been the Editor-In-Chief for Officer.com.  One of my duties is to post blogs on a regular basis.  The above link will take you to a page archiving my blogs.  The below introduction is from my most recent blog.

To Wear or Not To Wear...
Not that long ago one of the poll questions on Officer.com had to do with what medals and awards meant for various agencies. Out of the over 1,000 votes, 23% said that "everyone knows they're worthless" with 35% saying "only a few really mean anything." Only 7% replied "Every one of them requires accomplishment and sacrifice". That, and my experience traveling to various agencies around the country, made me think about the different outlook we (officers) have about awards, commendations, medals, etc.
Red State Papa's Blog
A sanctuary for right thinking warriors

Red State Papa is a blog maintained by John M. Wills.  I first met John a couple years ago and was impressed by his dedication STILL to a job (law enforcement) that he's retired from and an attitude (warrior outlook) that he maintains ANYWAY.  "Conservative Christian" is a term that could have been coined JUST for John.  I've had the pleasure of receiving emails from him that are supportive, offering advice, recognizing accomplishment, sympathizing with challenges.  I want to share some of his outlooks with you all.  Check out his blog.

And now you can buy John's new fiction book, "Chicago Warriors: Midnight Battles in the Windy City"
