editor picGood Morning!

Just as a friendly reminder to all those folks who in the world who love to be judgmental (myself among them), if you weren't there and didn't see / hear things first hand, you don't REALLY know what happened.  This incident in Dallas with the NFL player who ran a red light - that the mainstream media has been SHREDDING the police over - just irks the crap out of me.

Tactical Equipment Evaluation:
EOTAC Pants

I sometimes find it humorous that my father-in-law has more jeans in his closet right now than I've probably ever had in his life.  He has "dress" jeans, work jeans, casual jeans... and then I have to laugh at myself.  I have an even greater number of "tactical" pants in various colors and that I wear for different purposes.  Not long ago I was introduced to the tactical pants from EOTAC.  I began wear-testing them and realized that it's a good things some design characteristics are relatively universal in the product despite the manufacturer.  Otherwise I'd be lost when I reached for something.

Recreational Equipment Review:
MasterCraft X-55

As much as I don't get into the water or ON the water for recreation as I'd like, the simple truth is that I love the beach; I thoroughly enjoy scuba diving; and I find few things as invigorating as piloting a boat across the water, feeling the wind on my face and the bump of the uneven surface.  I miss the Bayliner I used to have and recently, more out of curiosity than anything else, started looking around for other possibilities.  One option I found was the MasterCraft X-series - the X-55 being the "flag ship" for that line.  Here's a bit more about it...

In the past week, for whatever reason, it seems like I've had a ton of conversations about training for Active Shooter / Immediate Response protocols.  The reason?  Just as they always have, bad guys are evolving their tactics.  Some of them are obviously stupid, but the intelligent ones watch and learn and adjust their plans to negate OUR plans or response.  And, just as we (law enforcement) always have, we react to their evolution with our own.  The problem is that means we're always behind the curve. We're always trying to catch up.  Think about that for a second: if you're in a fist fight and you're always trying to react to your opponent's attacks and never becoming proactive with an attack of your own, do you expect to win?  No.  You have to get ahead of his attack and force him to react / defend against you.  We have to have that same mentality when it comes to the next evolution of our Active Shooter / Immediate Response (AS/IR) policies, protocols, tactics and training.

It's How You Lived
I wish I could find out who said:
It's not how you die that counts; It's how you lived.

This past week the police community has stood together in grief once again as a criminal takes the lives of three of our brothers in a single day. Some say justice prevailed because the criminal himself was justifiably shot and killed. I wouldn't argue with that - but I would debate when the ultimate justice is served.
Red State Papa's Blog
A sanctuary for right thinking warriors

Red State Papa is a blog maintained by John M. Wills.  I first met John a couple years ago and was impressed by his dedication STILL to a job (law enforcement) that he's retired from and an attitude (warrior outlook) that he maintains ANYWAY.  "Conservative Christian" is a term that could have been coined JUST for John.  I've had the pleasure of receiving emails from him that are supportive, offering advice, recognizing accomplishment, sympathizing with challenges.  I want to share some of his outlooks with you all.  Check out his blog.

And now you can buy John's new fiction book, "Chicago Warriors: Midnight Battles in the Windy City"
