Starting with a “basic” AR-15 design, SDI manufactures their weapons to much tighter tolerances than some others in the industry. As an easy indicator, the first time I tried to field strip the weapon I had to work HARD to get the rear retaining pin out.

Shooting it side by side with a friend’s identical full-size 9mm S&W M&P with a stock recoil spring and guide, we both thought that it reduced the felt recoil by about 30%, shooting both 115 standard velocity and 124 grain +P rounds.
