Chaplain’s Corner: Our World Today

We live in a society in our country that is being very vocal on the two ends of the spectrum between liberal and conservative but not much is coming from the in-between folks. Some will fight to keep guns totally free of further restrictions than are already covered by existing laws. Some states are moving to gain more freedom for gun owners than already exists in their states… And some are clamoring for total elimination of private ownership of any guns. If guns were actually the problem I would not argue against elimination of them but like the effort at prohibition of alcoholic beverages was not achievable, the total elimination of guns will not be achievable either unless criminals and lawlessness are eliminated also. Chaplain’s Corner: Rejoicing and Meditating

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Many things cause me to stop often and meditate about you and pray for you. The Divine Love that my Commander-In-Chief and I have for all of you keeps you on my mind and heart. You are seldom out of my thoughts unless I am asleep. You are vitally important to the present and future survival and success of our nation. We would have no life as we now know it if it were not for all of you and each of you being in your places doing your duty. Whether you are law enforcement or military… You have made a vital difference. Read the full story

Chaplain’s Corner: Call us, Use us!

I am a widower of thirteen years, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. I have buried the earthly remains of one son as well as my wife. For thirty five years I carried a pager and a Police Chaplain badge, being called out at all hours usually to help with some kind of death case… Traffic fatality, homicide, suicide, sudden infant death, drowning, fire, death in the law enforcement family… Called to get into someone else’ pain… To accompany an officer or to relieve an officer or a doctor from delivering the tragic, horrible news… Or to minister to the ones who had just suffered some terrible, tragic discovery and/or loss of a loved one… Parent, spouse, lover, child! Chaplain’s Corner: Law & Lawlessness

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

We know that the Law (of God) is spiritual (I once heard an instructor say that 85% of man’s law is based upon God’s Law – DRS); but I am a creature of the flesh [carnal, unspiritual, selfish], having been sold into slavery under [the control of] sin (willful selfishness, disobedience, immorality and lawlessness).

For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled, bewildered]. Read the full story

Chaplain’s Corner: Things We Do Not Want

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Things we do not want happen and yet we are given another lick on the lollipop and we go on with life as it is, and work to make it better… HE says to me, “My Grace is sufficient for you!” I think on it, absorb it’s strength… get busy and go on with what is at hand. Read the full story

Chaplain’s Corner: Choices 01/21/13

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Each of us will always have choices to make for as long as we live and draw breath.  “…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).  As I look back over the terrain traversed to get me to this place and this moment, I am listening to a noted musician play a tribute to a noted singer with very special, beautiful music…  In listening I also noted that I might initially say I did it my way, for that was the tune that was being played so extremely well…  But that would not be true reality for me…  All I did was to make the choices to follow new paths as they presented themselves and cooperate as best I was able…  At every change in direction there was an external force in action that showed me a different way to achieve the best course of life for me…  Each time I became convinced that there was a specific way for me to go and that I should choose that way being made available to me…  I made the choices and did what I could. As a small child I was attentive, obedient and sometimes boisterous…  Then I had Polio and became more quiet…  My dad came home from the Pacific.  He was home just a few minutes when he said to my mom, what happened to him (asking about me), why is he so quiet? Chaplain’s Corner: Memories

As I received news this week and as I reminisced today, I thought on experiences of times past. Specifically I thought on my 20 years of duty as chaplain foot patrol supervisor on our oceanfront resort strip. This effort was accomplished in response to a request from our city government to assist in peace keeping on the strip during the summer late nights on weekends and holidays. In 1989 we had a very serious problem with black college fraternities choosing to gather here on Labor Day weekend to celebrate the end of summer and the return to college classes. We were inundated with many visitors jammed into our resort strip area along the beach front. Read the full story

Chaplain’s Corner: For The New Year

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

I hear it often…  “Happy New Year!”  I have given it much thought.  I understand the sentiment, but I must live one moment at a time hoping that their good wishes will take place but knowing that there will still be challenges.  So I face each new day with the hope and good wishes of the time being good and happy…  Still I know that happiness is up to me by the attitude that I set in my own mind and heart…  Happiness is up to me, not up to whatever circumstances that I am facing or involved in during any moment of time nor upon anyone else other than me. AFGHANISTAN CASUALTIES LAST TEN DAYS (GOOGLE)
U.S. Forces – 1 Suicide, 1 Hostile Action.

A wave of betrayal has left at least 17 Afghan policemen dead in the past 10 days –
all slain in their sleep at the hands of those close to them.
(Many of our troops are in Afghanistan to train those native police officers in how to become the peace keepers for their own people and country. – Chp. Don)
