Long time readers know that I have, in the past, written several articles about Bugout Bags, Go Bags, Trunk Kept Go Bags and assorted other articles on related topics. This past week I was presented with an interesting hypothetical: what if you couldn’t take a bag? What if all you had was what you were WEARING and your guns. What would that consist of? Naturally this is radically different depending on what environment you are, or you expect to be, in. Still, it seemed an interesting enough challenge to contemplate that I thought I’d share. First let me say this: We at New American Truth are horrified and distraught at the loss of life in Newtown, Connecticut. The history of violence in or against our schools in the United States predates our country’s founding. It should shame us all that we act so aggressively to prevent accidental deaths by fire or physical injury but we so completely neglect the prevention of violence in any realistic manner. Instead of arming willing and capable teachers and training our students to never accept being a victim, the educational leadership mouths meaningless platitudes about “zero tolerance” and “teaching individual responsibility.” The only way to survive a violent attack and emerge victorious against evil is to train for it and respond to it with greater justified and completely moral violence. Until that reality becomes accepted and spread through our schools, violence will continue; the loss of innocent lives will continue; and politicians will continue to use such horrific events, leveraging them for their own power-grabbing agendas. Isn’t it a shame that we can’t get people as excited about preparedness as one author did about a man’s variations in his sexual interests? I mean… yeah, I understand that almost anything to do with sex is more interesting that preparedness, planning and survival, but if you die for lack of preparedness you’re not going to be around to enjoy sex anyway, right? That said, the whole “fifty shades” thing got me to thinking that there are probably that many different kind of preppers (if not more) and quite often we’re all lumped together in the same basket in spite of our differences. Every so often I get a phone call from a representative on behalf of a gun manufacturer or importer that I’ve never heard of. It’s a rare occurrence but it happens. That was the genesis of this week’s review. I got a call saying, “Have you ever heard of…?” I hadn’t previously ever heard of Del-Ton Inc. or the rifles they manufacture. Within a couple weeks I had a test rifle and here I am several weeks later reporting on how a rifle I’d never heard of performed. I wasn’t disappointed with the new name. Read the full story

If you watch enough military movies, particularly if they revolve around special forces and/or explosives handlers, you’ll eventually hear the phrase, “Two is one; one is none.” With people who deal in such risky work where the success of a mission can make or break a war, nothing can be left to chance. They can’t count on ONE detonator; they use TWO. A General may not be able to count on a single A-Team to get the mission accomplished so he sends TWO. Two is one; one is none. When we talk about survival preparation and equipment, where living or dying can hinge on what we do or don’t have, can we afford to take a less cautious approach? I think not. Read the full story

Depending on your background, whether or not you spent time in the military, what type of family you were raised in, etc you may or may not have received any training in the basic necessities of survival. It’s okay if you haven’t received any training because there are only about a gazillion survival kits available for sale through a boatload of catalogue and online companies. But which one do you need? This isn’t a review of which ones are best, but instead a look at what items such a “kit” should contain. Then you can select which one suits your purposes and/or build one of your own. Read the full story

A friend of mine who happens to be the owner of Gun Connection in White Marsh, Maryland noticed the single point sling adapter I was using one day and told me I was overdue for an upgrade. Had my wife been there, she would have given him a dirty look but, she wasn’t so, it was game on to find a new one. I stopped by on my way home from work one day and took a look at the latest options available for a replacement lower receiver plate that would act as a single point sling adapter. I was shown several models before deciding on the Troy OEM M4 BattleSling Mount. Troy Industries, Inc. products are all made in theUSAand have a lifetime warranty. Read the full story

A few months ago I was talking to a friend of mine about getting a custom rifle/pistol magazine pouch. What I wanted was a pouch able to carry two rifle mags with four pistol mags on the front of the rifle mags. The reason for this set up is that I wanted to have all the ammo I needed in as small a package as possible. I was told to get in touch with Bagman Tactical in Maryland. Read the full story

If you live in the city, unless you hunt far outside the city, there’s not a lot of use for a rifle in your home. Sure, a handgun or shotgun for home defense is logical, but what’s the point of owning a .22lr or .17HMR caliber rifle? If your only goal is owning it, I’m with you on that. But what purpose will it serve? Things are different if you live in a rural area and have any amount of property to manage or care for. Out “in the sticks” a rifle is all but mandatory not only to provide food through hunting, but also to prevent varmints (the pest variety) from becoming a nuisance or threat. What am I talking about?

The concept of “when to” reload the M4/ carbine must be combined with the “how to.” Phrases such as “reload whenever you can” or “every chance you get” or “whenever there is a lull in the action” must be expanded upon and examples and exceptions critically discussed whenever teaching techniques.
